What to Know When Considering Solid Hardwood Floors

Our customers want to know what the process entails, how long the project will take, how disruptive it will be, and what to expect.

At Texas Hardwood Flooring, we take pride in our expertise in exceptional installation. Here’s what the process looks like—and why choosing solid hardwood may be the best decision for your home. 🏡

      Why Choose Solid Hardwood?

      • Longevity: Properly maintained, solid hardwood can last for generations.
      • Timeless Style: Solid hardwood is custom-stained onsite and hand-scraped to any degree from smooth to rustic. It is more than just a flooring choice. It’s an investment in quality.
      • Refinishing: You can sand and refinish multiple times over the years.
      • Damage repair: If the floor suffers damage, the damaged planks can be replaced, and the floor can be refinished to look like a brand-new floor.
      • Adds Value: Solid hardwood is not just a flooring choice; it’s an investment in your home. This top-of-the-line flooring adds considerable property value, giving you peace of mind about your home’s worth.

Can Solid Hardwood Flooring be extended to additional rooms?

Yes, this is a real plus for solid hardwood. Engineered wood can be hard to match. With solid hardwood, the stain and level of hand scraping can be installed to match existing wood in the home seamlessly. This means that you can extend the beauty and durability of solid hardwood flooring to additional rooms, creating a timeless, cohesive look throughout your home.

      Timeline:

We recommend scheduling 3 to 5 days for the first 1,000 SF and an additional day for every additional 1,000 SF.

      Dust:

Texas Hardwood Flooring utilizes a dustless system, covers all surfaces with plastic, and replaces conditioning filters upon completion of the job. Dust is effectively managed, ensuring a clean and comfortable environment for you and your family.

      The process:

      Installation Over Concrete Slab 🧱

      1. Moisture Testing: The concrete slab is inspected and tested for moisture. Moisture must be below 4%.
      2. Moisture Barrier: Install a 6-mil poly sheet to protect against rising moisture.
      3. Plywood Subfloor: Plywood panels are anchored into the concrete.
      4. Roofing Felt Layer: A layer of felt is placed above the plywood for additional moisture protection.
      5. Tongue-and-Groove Installation: Each hardwood plank is nailed through the tongue into the plywood, while the groove slides over the tongue.
      6. Finishing: The surface is sanded, stained to your preferred color, and sealed with polyurethane for protection and a shine.

Installation Over Pier and Beam Foundation 🏡

The steps are nearly identical; we check the moisture level of the crawl space and ensure the joists are sound. Proper support and adequate air circulation are essential for achieving a long-lasting result.
